RevOps Champions Newsletter #19
One of my kids needed help. She’s part of the Gen Z generation and in college, so I just assumed she knew how to use AI.
But when she was faced with applying for summer internships, all of which require a cover letter specific to that organization, she was overwhelmed. It didn’t even occur to her to use an AI tool, like ChatGPT, to make it easier.
This surprised me because I use ChatGPT for nearly all of my writing so I assumed that all high school and college students would also be using it to help with their writing.
In my case, I do the writing part myself, but ChatGPT helps me organize my thoughts. Although it’s still not fast, it makes the process a million times faster than it would be without it.
Most recently, I was re-writing some role descriptions for positions we need to fill.
I first wrote a short ‘mission’ for the role and then created the scorecard, or key outcomes, for the role.
The last step was to write the section we call ‘About You’. I used the ‘About You’ section from another role we had already written, and asked ChatGPT to rewrite the ‘About You’ section for this new role using the role’s mission and expected outcomes.
What would normally have taken me at least 30 minutes, took about 5 minutes. I still had to review and edit it, but it was a lot faster than starting from scratch.
With these newsletters that I write, which are based on the learnings from one of our podcasts, I use ChatGPT to help summarize the most important takeaways for B2B leaders of the podcast episode I’m talking about. Seeing the top 10 or so learnings in a summarized format helps me figure out what I want to focus on.
I’ve always listen to the podcast, but ChatGPT helps me synthesize the learnings much faster than my brain would be able to do it. Having a focus in the newsletters helps me to hopefully provide more value to you.
And back to my daughter, because most of the people on our team use AI tools even more than I do, I assumed everyone, especially younger people who are digital natives, were using it too.
My daughter’s internship application process reminded me of a wisdom I learned long ago. When we ‘assume’, we make an @$$ out of u and me. 😜
I realized there are MANY people still not using AI tools like ChatGPT (or Claude, Gemini, CoPilot, Perplexity, etc). They have their habitual way of doing things and haven’t yet realized there’s a better, more efficient way to do them now.
Which ties directly to our recent RevOps Champions podcast with guest Alex Bratton. Alex is the CEO of Lextech, whose mission is to help their clients empower people with technology.
Although he’s a huge proponent of using tech as a competitive advantage, Alex shared that tech without proper processes and cultural adoption is useless.
Alex believes that experimentation and AI adoption across the whole team is key. The way to achieve adoption is to encourage employees to test AI tools and share findings. This structured experimentation helps build internal AI literacy and readiness.
Alex shared, “I am a big champion of AI and it’s supposed to be about how do we give our teams superpowers?”
AI is as transformative as the internet or electricity was in previous eras. And because the AI tool landscape is rapidly changing, and will continue to, businesses should focus on helping their people learn AI communication skills (e.g., prompting) rather than committing to specific tools.
One of Alex’s analogies that I loved, is that AI could be like a personal coach for every person on our team. Who wouldn’t benefit from that?
But as with all success, AI mastery is driven by action. AI opportunities will emerge when teams actively engage with the technology. As business leaders, we need to encourage our teams to be experimenting and iterating on AI applications if we are going to make it a competitive, or even better, an unfair advantage for our businesses.
If you haven’t yet gotten started, now is the time. Your company will be left behind if you don’t find ways to leverage AI to work smarter.
AI isn’t just a tool—it’s an opportunity to empower your team, streamline workflows, and drive real business impact.
So, what’s one way you can use AI today to make your work easier? Start small, stay curious, and let’s keep learning together. If you need guidance, your Denamico team is here to help! 🚀
Cheers!
